- Sunfest is what I hear people talking about for this weekend, I may have heard of it… Flaming Lips was pretty much the only interesting act for me this go around and my employer was extremely tight with comp tickets so I’m sitting this one out. I may have gone to see Charlie Daniels Band but not for $32.

Something I just found out via an article in the New Times, that has me both disgusted and dismayed – Commissioner Cara Jennings apparently received a death threat via the comments section on an article in the Palm Beach Post.
When did this culture of negativity and death threats become acceptable and why has it become so common? Regardless of what you think of Jennings or her tenure as commissioner, let’s take it down a notch people. Advocating murder is not the step that immediately follows not liking someone’s opinion.
Seems like Luna Lounge/Mojito’s might be reaching just a wee bit. As noted in a brief on palmbeachpost.com, Mojito’s the Retreat has filed suit in federal court claiming that the city of Lake Worth, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and Deputy Gerald Deneen is impinging on their constitutional rights to sell liquor after the city enforced 2am.
Mojito’s was denied nightclub status last August, which allows bars like Sneakers on Dixie Highway to stay open until 5 am. They claim harassment from sheriff’s deputies of themselves and their customers, as well as lost revenue, when they came to shut the bar down for operating after hours.
Almost seems like one of the deputies said, ‘why don’t you make a federal case out of it,’ and Mojito’s took their advice. Whether or not this is a constitutional issue will be up to a judge at this point. Still seems like the bar probably had a more reasonable course of appeals rather than just ignoring the city commission, getting closed down a bunch of times and then taking it straight to the feds.
